        Hi my beloved students. Long time no see. Gimana nih kabarnya? Semoga kalian semua sehat-sehat yaaa.. Hayooo siapa yang selama liburan kemarin gak pernah buka buku pelajaran apalagi pegang pulpen? Tim rebahan mana suaranya? Yuuukkk menginjak semester genap di awal tahun ini tingkatkan semangat belajar nya khususnya pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.

Allright, let’s begin to study English dear!  We are going to study about recount text.  Do you know about recount text? Have you learned about recount text? Sebelumnya Mrs. V mau nanya nih, pernah gak sih kalian menceritakan kembali suata kejadian/ peristiwa di masa lalu? Baik itu pengalaman pribadi, menceritakan sejarah, biografi? Ini ada hubungannya dengan materi recount yaaa..

So, What is recount text? Recount text is a text which retell events or experiences in the past (Yakni sebuah teks yang menceritakan kejadian atau pengalaman di masa lalu). The social function of recount text is to inform or to entertain the reader about experiences in the past.

There are several kind of recount text:

1. Personal recount (Menceritakan kembali pengalaman penulis di masa lampau)

2. Historical recount (Text yang membahas tentang sejarah baik itu tempat bersejarah maupun benda bersejarah)

3. Biography recount (Teks tentang kisah hidup seseorang atau biografi seorang tokoh)

4. Factual recount (Menceritakan peristiwa yang benar-benar terjadi atau ada fakta yang dipaparkan kembali dalam factual recount)

5. Imaginative recount (Menceritakan hal yang fiktif atau imajinatif)

Untuk kali ini kita akan membahas tentang historical recount. Historical recount text is a text that used to explain and retell factual events in the past that has historical values. Social function of historical recount is to inform or entertain the reader the historical past events.

Generic structure text:

a. Orientation (Menceritakan latar belakang informasi tentang siapa, dimana, kapan suatu peristiwa terjadi)

b. Series of events (Menceritakan peristiwa atau kronologi kejadian secara berurutan)

c. Reorientation (Kesimpulan cerita sekaligus penutup dimana dalam penutupan ini kamu bisa memberikan opini terkait cerita tersebut)

Language Features:

1. Using simple past tense 

2. Using chronological connection (next, after that, the next day, etc)

3. Using action verb (kejadian yang terjadi dan dilakukan) spent, went, run, ate, etc

 

An example of historical recount text:

Generic Structure	Bandung as Sea of Fire
Orientation	Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung on March 24, 1946. Within seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung burned their homes.
Series of Events	British troops as part of the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung on October 12, 1945. Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local people. There were black smoke billowing high into the air everywhere. The British Army began to attack so fierce. The greatest battle happened in the Village name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung, where there were a large ammunition depot belonging to British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat Indonesia  destroyed the ammunition depot. The strategy to fire Bandung was considered because the power of TRI and people’s militia was not comparable to the British forces and NICA.
Reorientation	This incident inspired to create the famous song “Halo, Halo Bandung”. To remember what they did and struggled, they built the Bandung Lautan Api Monument.
